This course is taught jointly by Cristina Di Staiola and Peter Cullen. While approaches are different, the underlying aim is to present different facets of the role of the English as a language medium and series of cultures in the business and economic world. Prof. Di Staiola will be looking closely at the role of English in it’s marketing and communications contexts while Dr. Cullen will help students explore the connections between language, culture and business.
Both your professors for this course are North American – Prof. Di Staiola is from Ohio, USA, and Prof. Cullen from Nova Scotia, Canada. We have both been living in Italy for more than 10 years and have years of experience as English language teachers at the University of Urbino. The topic of English in global contexts is, therefore, dear to us – as we have lived through one of the great phases of change in this language, and today live as protagonists of its future change. The opportunity to work with students on this theme is a privilege and a responsibility that we meet with excitement and great personal interest. We wholeheartedly hope to transmit this to our students as we work our way through this course!
